The Essonne Departmental Council – Conservatory of sensitive natural areas
The Conservatoire des Espaces Naturels Sensibles (CENS) of the Essonne Departmental Council has protected 1,550 ha of natural sites and 2,300 km of rural trails.
Today, there are 55 Sensitive Natural Areas, 30 of which are already open to the public. 11 marked hiking trails allow you to discover the natural and cultural heritage of Essonne. Through the “Nature Rendezvous” program, the CENS offers free educational outings throughout the year, open to all.
In addition, the CENS now offers a mobile application to discover the Sensitive Natural Areas of Essonne.

Regional Natural Park of French Gatinais
Located in Essonne and Seine-et-Marne and composed of 57 municipalities, this “country of a thousand clearings and sandstone” is characterized by contrasting and unusual landscapes where clearings and forests alongside valleys and chaotic sandstone landscapes.
The aim of this RNP is to preserve heritage and quality of life and to ensure economic development in accordance with the principles of sustainable development.
The diversity of landscapes and geological outcrops have allowed this Park to develop a specific agricultural production including honey, watercress, aromatic and medicinal plants which are the main resources of this territory.
The park is also rich in its architectural heritage: castles, 15th century market hall, stone houses, … Since prehistoric times, this exceptional territory has attracted men and artists such as Jean Cocteau and Claude François. You will be able to discover rock art in the forest of Trois Pignons or the monumental sculpture of Cyclop initiated by Jean Tinguely.

Regional Natural Park of the Upper Chevreuse Valley
Composed of 51 communes, including 8 communes of Essonne, the Regional Natural Park of the Upper Chevreuse Valley is characterized by contrasting landscapes where the valleys are alternated with cultivated plateaus and wooded hillsides.
A haven of greenery at the gates of Paris, you will enjoy 300 km of marked trails and churches, abbeys, parks and gardens, castles and picturesque villages that enrich the landscape. Take advantage of your stay to discover the local know-how and craftsmen. All marked trails are freely available on the Park’s website (on IGN background) in the hiking section.
Discover the tools at your disposal to browse the Park in an original way. For 5 euros a day, the outdoor audio guide will guide you in town and in nature and answer all your questions. The Baladobus serves the remarkable sites of the Park. This bus departing from the Saint-Rémy-Lès-Chevreuse RER station or Rambouillet station runs from spring to autumn on Sundays and public holidays.
